Would have been better off with a contract via Verizon or otherwise

Overall Rating:
1.3 out of 5
By: Tracie Kasper on Thursday, October 30, 2008
From: Simi Valley, CA (United States)
Experience: 1 Months
Pros: Perhaps that I won't have to pay an outrageous cancellation fee unlike contract companies.

Cons: Customer Service and Upgrades.

Summary: POOR Customer Service, POOR quality phones-and a not so lovely lengthy waiting period if you dare attempt to upgrade. (Hopefully you have a back up phone!)
I could hardly understand most representatives- English, I had to make myself VERY repetitive, they tried rushing me off the phone because they 'couldn't help resolve this issue', they stated they "Don't do any kinds of refunds, or returns", they stated they "Can't delete my account/and phone number", and last but not least-they told me they "CAN'T delete my credit card information". Hmmm...a little too fishy for my taste. Make sure you PRINT out any and all receipts of purchases, be it airtime cards, phones. minutes bundles from your phone itself-EVERYTHING! Unfortunately enough, I need a working phone NOW. Not in 48 hours, Not in 7-10 business days. Since they cannot help me, and won't remotely attempt at customer satisfaction in allowing refunds or returns-I'm disputing all charges with my bank to get my money back. I've already dumped a total of $180 into Net10. Worth it? Not by any means. For far less than that I would rather be bound into a 2 year contract. At least they are RELIABLE and have they act together! =[ Ultimately, yes-they were clever enough to rape me for my money.

Phone and service are great.

From: Jamesport, MO (United States)
Experience: 6 Years
Pros: Lowest cost time, great coverage.

Cons: Poor phone selection.

Summary: I drive truck, border to border, mountain range to mountain range, never been without sevice. Even deliveries to boondock locations had service. If you can't understand the service person, just ask for another person, or a supervisor.

The SIM card must be set up in the area you live in. Don't buy one out of your service area, or buy one and send it to someone out of your service area without setting it up first in your area. Most of the problems I read in your comments started with the customer not understanding the rules.

I started with Tracfone ( the parent company ) and switched over to Net10 for the lower cost. If you want a phone to be more than a phone go sign a two year contract with someone for 3 times the money. If you want a phone that works like a phone, get Net 10.

Service Is Spotty.

Overall Rating:
3.3 out of 5
By: Aaron Ariens on Tuesday, October 14, 2008
From: Grapeview, WA (United States)
Experience: 6 Months
Pros: Cheap phone's, great value.

Cons: I would like to have more coverage. I guess you could blam At&t for that.

Summary: I love my little net10 phone. I have the unlimited minutes and text plan, best thing ever. It also has free 411 included. Great deal, I would go for it.

OK Service - Best Value

Overall Rating:
3 out of 5
By: Michel Mally on Friday, October 10, 2008
From: Little Rock, AR (United States)
Experience: 3 Years
Pros: Cheap, good selections of phone (for pre-paid)

Cons: Spotty Customer Service

Summary: I had a phone for 3 years. I started having problems with it. I could receive calls but not dial out. I called Customer Service. They answered the phone quickly and were very nice but the Level 1 reps could not fix the problem. They had me enter code after code and was constantly putting me on hold for "3 minutes please". After 1.5 hours they transfered me to a supervisor. The supervisor could speak and understand English much better. He determined the phone was bad in 2 minutes and said they would send a new one. I got it 2 days later. (Very impressive).

When I tried to activate the replacement the service date carried over but not the minutes. I called CS again. Same problem. They worked with me so long my home handset went dead and I had to call back and start over. It took 2.5 hours to get the problem solved by a supervisor who fixed the actual problem in less than a minute.

Suggestion to NET10 - Pay more for better support reps.
A knowledgable rep can turn a 2-hour phone call into a 5 minute call. You would save more money on your 1-877 number charges than you would pay in higher wages for better first level.

So far,so good.

Overall Rating:
4.7 out of 5
By: John Humphries on Monday, October 06, 2008
From: Johnson City, TN (United States)
Experience: 22 Days
Pros: Low rate, excellent coverage in my area, better in EVERY WAY than AT&T GoPhone

Cons: none so far.

Summary: Bought a cheap phone at Target with 300 free minutes. Had it activated in less than 5 minutes. Decided to upgrade the phone...got a nicer phone also with 300 minutes. Called customer service. Transferred the 280 minutes from the old phone with no problems. Minutes were on my new phone while I was still on the phone with the lady.
She spoke with an accent but perfectly good English..better than some people who are American born and live around here.
Better than GoPhone...service time as well as minutes roll over...with AT&T it's just minutes. When you add minutes, your service time starts all over again.
With AT&T, they charge for a minute whether the other party answers or not. Net 10 does NOT.
I don't have unreasonable expectations that Net 10 is going to be like a full featured Sevice such as verizon. IT does what I need it to do flawlessly.
If you want all the bells and whistles, sign a 2 year contract with the big guys. Don't complain if you get what you pay for with Net 10.

International calling problems

Overall Rating:
1.3 out of 5
By: Ken Parker on Thursday, October 02, 2008
From: Omak, WA (United States)
Experience: 30 Days
Pros: Great when it works - worked well calling within Washington & Idaho.

Cons: Customer service

Summary: The following is the response I got after I provided a detailed description of the problems I encountered attempting international calling:

"Thank you for your interest in Net10 Wireless. We are responding to your
recent inquiry.

Net10 Wireless would like to take this opportunity to apologize for any
inconvenience you may have experienced with our service. Feedback from our customers is very important to us. We assure you that we will
research this issue to prevent it from happening in the future.

Should you have any additional questions or concerns, please contact one of our customer care representatives at 1-877-836-2368. For your
convenience, our representatives are available Monday-Saturday from 8:00 AM to 9:45 PM EST, and on Sunday from 8:00 AM to 6:45 PM EST. To expedite your call, please have your Net10 and serial number available.

Thank you for being a Net10 Wireless customer. We appreciate your
business.

Sincerely,

Net10 Wireless"

Most international calls required several attempts and chewed up minutes big time. The letter above tells me nicely to swallow the the chewed up time and to forget about help, let alone refunded minutes. I am not likely to buy more minutes when my card runs out. I'll chalk it up to experience - you get what you pay for and often you pay more for less.

Good deal if you don't ever upgrade your phone.

From: Salt Lake City , UT (United States)
Experience: 3 Years
Pros: Good coverage, good rates

Cons: Customer service, upgrading difficult, limited features.

Summary: I've used Net10 for over 2 years with few problems. The problems came when I "upgraded" phones. Started with a Nokia 1600 "pocket dialer" and upgraded to a Motorola W375. Took weeks and a new sim card to succesfully use the phone. Bought a cable to connect phone to PC, no joy. Just doesn't happen. Won't work. "Upgraded" to LG600G and am now without phone service. Seems that "porting in" is not as easy as making a phone call.

24-48 hours is the current catch phrase that they've taught the customer service people. I'm very dissatisfied with that. 24-48 hours from right now, whenever you call or email, or read this.

Give it 24-48 hours of thought before using this service. I'm going to look into Cricket.

Net10 can't help

Overall Rating:
1.3 out of 5
By: ellen lord on Saturday, September 13, 2008
From: staten island, NY (United States)
Experience: 2 Days
Pros: W375 motorola phone is attractive, easy to navigate and has good features....but read on.

Cons: Net10 has the most horrific customer service ever encountered, and no matter how patient you are with them they just hang up if they can't resolve your problem. their comprehension and communication skills of the english launguage unfortunately leaves a lot to be desired.

Summary: Both my husband and i can flip open our net 10 motorola W375 cell phones, and when we are connected to the net10 network we can just directly dial an area code and phone # and talk to everyone clearly.....but we cannot call each other, even when my hubby tries to call me and my phone is not in use, it always goes to the message center and my cell phone never rings.....and same for my hubby's cell phone.

adding insult to injury is we programmed everything correctly, and net 10 verified our connections, yet to date net10 can't provide the answer....but we sure hope someone can.

From: methuen, MA (United States)
Experience: 4 Months
Pros: Cheap phones, good coverage (In MA), no daily service charge.

Cons: Not yet.(4 months and counting)

Summary: Well maybe because I switched over from the worst cell phone company, Sprint, I don't think my net 10 experience has been that bad. I bought the lg 300 for $30 at Target and received the 300 minutes. Its kind of braking even. I didn't port/switch my old number so I didn't have to deal with problems people have with that. And I have been able to activate the phone, add minutes, make and receive calls without any major problems. I think if you have realist expectations going in you'll be satisfied with your experience. If your just looking for a basic phone at a good price I feel net 10 the way to go.

Don't Do It!!!

Overall Rating:
1 out of 5
By: Marti Thompson on Thursday, August 28, 2008
From: New Smyrna Beach, FL (United States)
Experience: 1 Days
Pros: None Yet

Cons: Service, Activation, Customer Relations

Summary: My husbands daughter purchased a Net10 phone for him last year while he was in KY. This was so he could call home to FL. He has a cabin in KY in the mountains and no local phone service. It worked okay for that use. The phone was already activated when he got it.

He was planning another trip to KY the next day so he bought another 300 min. so he could call home. After following all the directions to load the minutes in the phone and getting no place, I called the Tech. service and finally found out that he needed a new sim card since the phone had not been used for almost a year. The existing sim could not be reactivated. (4-10 days for delivery). Being as he was leaving for KY the next day this would not work. He returned the purchased time to Walmart and bought another complete Net10 package for the same price (phone and minutes). My husband does not use the computer or a cell phone on a regular basis, so I went to activate the new phone. Not!!!!! I used the prompts to activate the phone, but their line #2 to connect to the computer generated activation area was not working. I then selected to talk to a tech. The non-english speaking tech. rep. I tried to talk to on the very poor connection said she had activated the phone. Not!!!! After waiting the 4+ hours for it to become active, which it never did. I went on line to activate it that way. This did not work either. I got a message that a transaction was being completed to wait 5 minutes. I waited over 30 min. to no avail. I then called in again to activate the phone. This time the selection #2 was wroking and I got the computer generated activation. I then had to enter a series of at least 10 different codes each have approx. 10 or 12 numbers in the codes. Finally activation!!

I would never purchase one of these again. Just the thought of trying to talk to someone I could not understand or hear clearly would steer me away. I have never in my life had such a time trying to complete a simple task.

The phone seems to be a good working phone so far, but the service sucks.
