Sprint has great potential!

Overall Rating:
3 out of 5
By: Maggie Olk on Tuesday, June 17, 2008
From: Farmingville, NY (United States)
Experience: 8 Years
Pros: Great selection of phones. Very good customer service. Great selection of ringers and games.

Cons: Poor reception in my area, expensive plans.

Summary: I have been using Sprint since I got my first cell phone back in 2000, so I've been using it for 8 years! They've grown a long way and have gotten better, but sad to say, for all their potential, they still fall short of what I need and it's time to switch carriers.

The reason I am leaving, and my biggest complaint, is reception. It's terrible. At home I can barely get a signal. It's definitely gotten better over the years, but I have to pay for a home phone. To me, if I still need a home phone, then it defeats half the reason of having a cell phone! When I'm in another state, reception is perfect, but it's so spotty in Suffolk County that I never know where I will get a decent signal! Sometimes I have a good signal, but it still won't connect. It's frustrating. Dropped calls, waiting for texts to go through, and error messages while attempting to be load web pages are pretty common. I admit that Sprint used to be much worse. However, after 8 years, I think I've waited long enough. I'm tired of paying extra for a home phone and tired of having to check to make sure that all my texts have gone through (if it can't go through, it's automatically sent in the Draft folder and I've not checked once or twice and realized days later that a text I sent never went through. Ugh!). It's frustrating when I tell a friend to call me to give me informatation and get a notifaction that I have a message, but the phone never rang. The odd things is that the rare times that my friends and family on other plans haven't had a signal, I've been the only one to have one! That's pretty rare though. When they offered roaming for free, I was so happy. I figured now I could finally use my phone in places that everyone else could using the roaming, but unfortunately, it was a flop. Many times it will bounce back between Sprint service and roaming and I watch this while waiting to get a connection, and wait and wait and wait. If I do get a connection, it's spotty and quickly drops the calls. I used to have my phone set to beep when it switched between Sprint and roaming but had to shut it off as the damn phone would beep all day long!

Another frustrating thing is that Sprint boasts, or at least used to boast, about static-free calls and they were right! In all these years with Sprint, there have been echoes, but never static. Ever. Well, until now!! Several times in the past month or two when using my phone in various places I've gotten staticy connections. I checked to see if I was roaming and I wasn't! So much for static-free calls. It was the one thing that Sprint had above all other carriers, I believe. Oh well. Not anymore.

As for the plans, I think they are expensive compared to some other carriers, such as T-Mobile, which I just switched to. Not so much the basic minute plan, but the extras. It costs an additional $15/month for web access, which includes picture mail. However, oddly enough, it includes unlimited u

Problems with billing

Overall Rating:
2 out of 5
By: Rebecca Cox on Thursday, June 05, 2008
From: Lancaster, OH (United States)
Experience: 18 Months
Pros: I seem to have decent coverage.

Cons: I set up automatic billing from my checking account. They took out one payment and then didn't after that. They sent me a text message saying to pay my bill and I do not have texting. I ignored it because I knew they were wrong. Then I got an e-mail saying I owed a lot of money. I again thought they are wrong. I hadn't received my next statement to see if they took out the payment. I went to use my phone and it redirected me to customer service and wouldn't allow incoming or outgoing call

Summary: I do not recommend Sprint. I am also told all the time that people can barely hear me. I don't know if it is their service or my phone.

Sprint Rocks!!

Overall Rating:
5 out of 5
By: Joe smith on Friday, May 30, 2008
From: portland, OR (United States)
Experience: 10 Years
Pros: Helpful customer service reps. Eager to please. Great selection of phones. Reasonably priced plans with awesome features. Other carriers charge way more for the same thing. Great value for the money. Love the "Everything" plan--

Cons: Can be on hold longer than I want for customer service...not exclusive to Sprint/Nextel.

Summary: I've been with Sprint for 10+ years. They value my patronage by treating me well. Great perks. They go the extra mile to keep me happy. People shouldn't get on the band wagon and bad mouth them. They do try to get things fixed. It pays to not be a frequent switcher.

Sprint Stinks!

Overall Rating:
1.7 out of 5
By: Neal Linnartz on Thursday, May 22, 2008
From: New Braunfels, TX (United States)
Experience: 2 Years
Pros: Good reception

Cons: The worst customer service department ever. Once you have a problem it will never get resolved but will compound. They will promise to fix it but won't; they will promise credits for your trouble but you will never see them; they will keep you on hold for hours and hours and you will be as frustrated as me and have to pay to get out or file a lawsuit to get it fixed.

Summary: I just wanted an itemized statement. They couldn't do it. Instead they promised me they could and not to pay until they sent it but they never did and then tacked on late charges which they promised to remove but they didn't. They changed my plan on me without my permission assuming that I wanted more minutes. They promised to fix it but didn't and now they want me to pay for all the mistakes they made and promised to fix but didn't. Sprint is great if you like getting screwed out of your money and treated poorly.

Horrible customer service.

Overall Rating:
1.3 out of 5
By: Vanessa O. on Wednesday, May 21, 2008
From: Arlington, VA (United States)
Experience: 2 Years
Pros: Decent coverage overall in the DC metro area and in southern California

Cons: Everything!!! The phones are really expensive, the customer service is the worst, and there is always something wrong with the bill or they add services that I didn't request.

Summary: I switched from AT&T to Sprint exactly two years ago since AT&T had become Cingular and they had terrible customer service. Also my boyfriend had a plan through Sprint so we decided to get the family plan through them. At the store, everything seemed to be fine. They were suppose to easily transfer my number without any issues...well they almost lost it but I had noticed in time to make sure the number wasn't reassigned to someone else. After the first month, I received a bill for four times the amount it should have been (over $400 for the $89.99 family plan). They had literally charged my account four times. After dealing with customer service for several hours, I finally got it fixed. The next month, the account was charged twice. Again eventually customer service corrected it after long hours talking on the phone with them. Since we had told them to cancel the plan, the convinced us to stay and gave us extra services for free. The third month the bill was correct, but the extra services were never added. Throughout the two years there have always been issues. Finally this month my plan is up and we are deciding to looking for another provider especially since my last bill has an additional $75 charge for internet use that I did not use. After asking to speak to a manager, I was ignored and given weak excuses. Let's just say I am currently looking at other providers at the moment.

Freedom at last!!!

Overall Rating:
1 out of 5
By: Deangelo Jenkins on Saturday, May 10, 2008
From: Crystal, MN (United States)
Experience: 10 Years
Pros: None, absolutely horrible company.

Cons: Terrible customer service, most of the customer service reps are from non-english speaking backgrounds and thus are hard to understand. No one seems to know the right answer and if you call 3 different CSR you will get 3 very different answers. My bills kept changing month after month what a joke. They had to credit my account every month for over charging.

Summary: Please heed the warning and stay far away from Sprint or I promise you, you will be sorry... thank heavens my contract ended today, I'm free, never, ever to return!!!!!

Can't wait to switch, avoid Sprint!

Overall Rating:
1 out of 5
By: Heather K on Thursday, April 10, 2008
From: Kansas City , MO (United States)
Experience: 7 Years
Pros: ?

Cons: customer service is terrible!!!!!!!!

Summary: We have had service with sprint for the last 7 years and they were fine to start with but in just the last couple of years the customer service has gotten terrible. The most recent problem we have had is when one of our phones buttons quit working. We don't live very close to the store that does repairs (not all of them do repairs) so we switched the number to an older phone we had which doesn't work very well( drops calls, won't hold a charge well etc )so we could continue to use the line. I took the broken one in when I had time and they told me that they wouldnt fix it b/c it didn't have and active number on it anymore. I explained we paid for insurence on that phone and we needed a working phone on that line b/c it was used for a business line. The phone couldn't be reactived with the number b/c the buttons didn't work so they pretty much told us we were out of luck and could just buy another phone and sign another contract. NEVER! why pay to insure a phone if they will find any excuse not to fix it. This is just one of the many recent problems we have had. Do yourself a favor and don't mess with sprint!!!! oh and They never have the cool new phones either it was like 3 years after the razr phone that everyone wanted came out that they finally got it and by then it sucked compared to everything else.
