Pros: Advertised as an inexpensive prepaid cell phone that looks good with the double minutes option.
Cons: - Unit deduction problems. I am not sure if this is with double minute option or not.
- "Supervisors" were not helpful in working through deduction problem issues.
- Supervisors would not answer questions and poor phone reception made discussions very difficult.
Summary: For the first phone, I noticed that the units were deducting a lot faster than the use. 600 units had been deducted for about 150 used. When I called customer service, they had me enter a 100 digit code to make sure only 1 unit was deducted for each call lasting less than a minute. Some minutes were then returned and the phone appears to be working fine since. This was with the first level support. I then tested the second phone and found that for a short time period, 90 units were deducted for about 30 used. Again I called customer service to try and reconcile the discrepancy. After entering the 100 digit code, I was escalated to a supervisor as I needed minutes to test if the code was successful and I wanted to review the unit tracking process. The "supervisors" did not help with either the tracking or the minutes. The last guy basically told me that I was probably erasing data and insinuating that I was trying get extra minutes fraudulently. The only option offered was to subpoena phone records that take about 30 business days to return. In the mean time you cannot use the phone as the only records I had were the call logs. Use of the phone would lose the call logs as only the last 20 calls are kept.
The phone worked for what was intended, however the uncertain deduction problems and the poor customer service are making me look elsewhere.
Pros: emergency phone that works like a debit card
simple
up-front payment
customer service plus website work well together
Cons: none
Summary: I have had Tracfone service for the last three years as a prepaid with no hidden charges emergency phone and have been very happy with it. I just upgraded to a flip-phone style with better sound and needed some customer service assistance in transferring my minutes and dates to the new phone. Yes, the person I spoke with had an accent but she was very good and I'm now up and running with the new phone.
As others have said in the comments list - you need to know what you want a cellphone for. I've had health issues and need a phone just to be able to call for help if needed. Tracfone is perfect for this purpose.

Pros: None
Cons: Phone turns off randomly and will not turn back on; customer service non-existent
Summary: Had two of their phones and service is intermittent at best; phones turn off randomly; customer service is basically non-existent. Would never use them again EVER. Entered 1 in days used because the thing has never worked right.

Pros: Low cost cell service that works very well.
Cons: None, for the price.
Summary: I have been with TracFone since December 2004. I went with TF because my wife had been with TF over a year at that time and had no issues. I did have issues getting my phone set up, but since then it has simply worked. What I appreciate is that TF quality of service online and in person has improved. My wife recently switched her minutes from her old Nokia to a new Motorola cell phone. Her Nokia was so old, the number and minutes could not be transfered on line. The phone rep that my wife worked with spoke clear english and got the job done as expected. Based on my experience and my wife's, I am staying with TF and am not concerned about moving to a new phone in the future.

Pros: Cheap
Cons: Awful service
Summary: Don't count on tracfone. Their service is awful. The best you are likely to encounter is an email that doesn't even relate to your issue. Don't try to port your number, talk to a supervisor, or obtain a return call. Their call center is for incoming calls only and they CANNOT CALL OUT. From a cell phone company....COME ON!

Pros: cheap
Cons: customer support is terrible
Summary: My husband has been using Tracfone for a couple of years because he only needs it once in a while.I purchase minutes online with my credit card, it would not let me add the minutes to the phone. the site kept asking for a "pin number" if you purchase on line you don't have a card with a pin on it. when you click on the link that says if no pin click here it goes back to the same page. When you finally get thru all the automated crap and get a live body it speaks lousy english that you have to say what every other word, then they tell you to turn the phone off and back on. it was working fine until then, once turned off it would not come back on. I asked for them to credit my Visa, oh no we can't do that the automated system won't allow credits. They just keep your money and you don't get anything unless you buy another phone from them. They now know where to put their phones. I will never use them again and will tell every one I can about their crooked ways.

Pros: Easy to use. reasonably inexpensive.
Cons: toooo many unwanted calls.
Summary: I have given my number to 1 person..husband. Out of the last 9 calls rec'd only 1 was from him. The other 8 are from out of state or instate #'s I don't know. If I answer...I use up my minutes.
I did answer one day because I had had three calls in three days from this person. They still call. I used my vm to say "This is Sue's phone...if you are not calling Sue, you have the wrong number."
I have asked tracfone customer service if I can have a new number. My old verizon phone was expensive but in 3 years I probably only had 3 wrong numbers.
This phone I've had since Thanksgiving and have had no less than 20 wrong numbers call me.
I hate this phone.

Pros: easy activation, no contract, low cost, good customer service
Cons: pretty basic phones
Summary: I first used Tracfone from Jan. 2004 through Jan. 2006. I had one of the old refurb Nokia handsets. It was a durable phone. I never had any dropped calls. Initially, there was a slight problem during voice mail set up where the system wouldn't allow me to create a voice mail account. When I called customer service, they were very courteous and quite helpful and resolved the problem very quickly.
I switched to US Cellular for awhile, but returned to Tracfone after my contract was up. (no complaints, just a cost cutting action) Since I've been back with Tracfone, my little $ 10 Motorola has given me no trouble. Service is excellent. I get a signal just about everywhere.
