Telephone Number

Overall Rating:
4 out of 5
By: Victor Banonis on Saturday, March 01, 2008
From: Port St Lucie, FL (United States)
Experience: 4 Months
Pros: Number comes up Unknown name unknown number

Summary: I like your telephone service and rates-- What I don't like is that you don't identify the number and name on Caller ID My daughter sometimes refuses to answer because she doesn't know that its me calling.

Terrible Service

Overall Rating:
1.5 out of 5
By: ruby blue on Monday, February 25, 2008
From: newington, NH (United States)
Experience: 4 Years
Pros: Cheap rates

Cons: Terrible, horrible, rude customer service.
Frequent international disconnections.

Summary: After using this service for over 5 years, my phone was suddenly and inexplicably disconnected without any notice. After many frustrating calls to OPEX and the assurance that I would be re-connected (ridiculously enough, it would take them a week!), I was still without service after 2 weeks. I just placed my final call to them to say I wanted to completely discontinue my relationship with the company. The operator said, "oh, you've already been disconnected, so ok."...this the response after years of getting my business??? She never offered an apology or attempted to keep my business. She couldn't have cared less. I will never recommend this company again.

The Best Value in VoIP

Overall Rating:
4.3 out of 5
By: T Bowman on Friday, February 08, 2008
From: Arlington, TX (United States)
Experience: 3 Months
Pros: The quality is good, but features and overall value is outstanding!

Cons: Getting voicemail setup was initially challenging but now works well. The server response is often too slow, resulting in a frustrating online experience when making changes to the service or account.

Summary: I have three home telephone lines. Service to all three lines was provided by a digital cable company. When the monthly base rate per line increased to $39.95, I decided to look at some alternatives. I switched one line to Phonedog, another to a major Bell carrier and the third to another VoIP company. Phonedog is the most feature-rich and easily managed but least expensive of the three. I'll be switching my other VoIP line to Phonedog as soon as my minimum commitment is satisfied.

Customer Service Fails

Overall Rating:
2.5 out of 5
By: Karen Souza on Wednesday, January 23, 2008
From: Limington, ME (United States)
Experience: 1 Years
Pros: Cheap rates

Cons: Poor customer service with no followthrough

Summary: Credit card was charged 2 or 3 times a month for the same service. Called the company monthly, faxed copies of my credit card bills and the e-mail statements of what my monthly bill was supposed to be, but to no avail. No call back. Never got to speak with someone who could fix or explain the issue. Long "on hold" times also. I tried to resolve this for 1 year. Just awful!

Good service - Low price

Overall Rating:
4 out of 5
By: Jan H. on Wednesday, January 16, 2008
From: Willoughby Hills, OH (United States)
Experience: 2 Years
Pros: I don't make that many calls so this plan has worked well for me. I went from $40 per month in long distance charges to less than $10.

Cons: None

Summary: I usually pay more than the bill amount when it arrives (since it is so low). Then, I can go for a few months with no bill. It's worked well for me.

By: Douglas Franklin on Monday, January 07, 2008
From: Grass Valley, CA (United States)
Experience: 90 Days
Pros: Efficient, Saves money, and avoids the big monopoly AT&T.

Summary: When AT&T cut off my flat rate long distance service because I had a fax machine, it was a no-brainer to sign up with OPEX for the best rates available with no strings attached.

By: Jim Webster on Monday, December 24, 2007
From: Ocean Pines, MD (United States)
Experience: 4 Months
Pros: Low cost

Cons: Monthly minimum fees

Summary: This service is installed at a vacation home; there are months when no LD calls are made, so it has no value for me during those months.

Long Distance - Did you know?

Over 25 Million people use AT&T’s basic plan. They could save hundreds of dollars each year, if they switched. Are you still using AT&T, Sprint, or MCI?
